Salman Khan Kick Movie Review...

Kick movie review

Cast: Salman Khan, Jacqueline Fernandes, Randeep Hooda, Nawazudin Siddiqui, Mithun Chakraborty

Director : Sajid Nadiadwala

What this lovely word means is ‘unbearable’, though it can’t come remotely close to the tedium that the original describes. Salman’s leading lady says it to him. About him. Yes, gasp, addressing the one and the only Sallu Bhai, who appears in his latest In and As avatar in ‘Kick’.

We duly crack a smile. Look, look, Bhai is sending himself up. He’s letting his heroine crack a good one at his expense. Because he knows that he is anything but. And that he’s just waiting for her to finish the scene and leave, to get into his `Dabangg’ mode, for the hall will burst into hoots and claps and whistles.

That’s what a viewing of ‘Kick’ comes down to. I found it more or less ‘jhelable’ when Salman is not taking himself seriously, blowing a cherry at us. When the film starts getting him close to his noble Being Human image, it becomes a yawn. Salman kickin’ it is fine, but tearin’ up? Nahiiiiiin.

The plot, as befits a Salman Khan spectacle, is completely and delightfully cuckoo. Devi Lal Singh (Salman Khan) is a guy who wanders about searching for kicks. His father (Mithun Chakraborty) eggs him on in his pursuit. Devi runs into the sexy Shaina (Jacqueline Fernandez), but before anything can happen , he’s off and away. It’s time for Devi’s alter-ego, Devil, to show up, and be chased by a cop ( Hooda), and a crook (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) here and there and everywhere.

Never mind these niceties. We know that a Salman film is created solely to display his popular quirks and his one-liners and his ‘andaaz’, all of which are designed to send his fans into a swoon. Simple. When the story dares to fling such complex phrases as ‘retrograde amnesia’ and ‘conservative management’ at us, we fling them right back as we wait for Salman to slam it.

What makes ‘Kick’ interesting, apart from some unfettered Salman moments, is Siddiqui in full flow. His villainy is very Bollywood, with a trademark evil laugh, but self-aware and vivid at the same time : there are scenes he steals from everyone, including, sacrilege, from the Khan, even though the latter gets to throw away one of the most famous lines in movie history, with a wink : you talking to me?

Everything else is as it should be. Fernandez is made to play a psychiatrist just so Bhai can call her Psycho. Ha ha. We know she is a doctor because she wears thick framed-spectacles, which she chucks to a side to execute a perfect eye-popping shimmy shake.

Plot

Dhuruvan selects the five most insolent and disobedient girls in the troop for the expedition intending to provide them better training. As an attempt at a practical joke, the haughty girls post a complaint to Ganapathiram claiming that they didn't feel safe with Dhuruvan and that he was responsible for whatever that was to happen to them. Meanwhile, the expedition begins and while Dhuruvan is caught up in some procedures at the forest check post, the girls non-chanlantly try to drive the jeep and run it down the slope of a hill. After losing their vehicle, the troop decides to stay in the forest for the night and go by an alternate route the next morning. But the plot thickens, when Kalpana (Vasundhara) describes two white men with advanced armaments in the Indian forest heading towards the direction of the Indian satellite research station in the forest.

Duruvan plans that if the white men want to sabotage the space mission they would reach the banks of toonghum lake within 5 hours & he knows a better route to go to the safe place in opposite bank within 4.30 hours. he tells the girls to go back and inform the ranger about them; but girls disagree & go with Duruvan. they reach the opposite bank and to their shock they find 16 men with full military getup.

Dhuruvan guesses that they must be out to sabotage the space mission and makes plans to defeat the operation of the foreign mercenaries. He sends a cadet back to inform the officials and the rest join him in the operation. He manages to lodge their troop ahead of mercenaries by his navigation acumen. Later he deliberately obstructs the movement of mercenaries by cutting the trees to distract them. Anderson (Roland Kickinger) who heads the foreign terrorist group decides to stay back until a clear notion from the opposite side. He deploys two of his men to investigate the situation. But, Duruvan’s troops successfully kill the two men. Anderson sends another three men to the opposite side to find out what happened to the two guys he has sent; on the other hand Dhuruvan’s troops are eagerly waiting for them to collect their armaments. When Anderson finds that he has lost five of his group, he decides to kill whoever is obstructing him move further.

But, Dhuruvan's troops cleverly plant the land mines they acquired from one of the five men they killed. As per their expectation, one of the terrorists steps on a land mine and dies. This scares the terrorists and they decide that Anderson and one another man would go hunt for the land mines while the rest would set up a camp there. That night, Dhuruvan’s troops break into their camp and seize one of two boxes that the terrorists carry around with them. expecting it to contain information about the air missile. By the morning, Anderson finds most of his men dead and is enraged at Dhuruvan. On the other side, Ganapathiram gathers his team and creates allusions against Dhuruvan among the public. He manages to get a shoot on sight order for Dhuruvan from the district collector. He finds Ajitha's body in the quick sand of the river (previously sent by Dhuruvan to inform about terrorist group to the Army, but trapped into the quicksand and dies) and perceives that Dhuruvun must have killed her and gets order to shoot Duruvan on sight to save the girls. Ganapathiram on the way, finds Dhuruvan and tries to shoot him, but Dhuruvan escapes .He later realizes the situation when he sees the corpses of the terrorists and informs the Army head that he killed the terrorists and promises him to hand over the dead bodies. Dhuruvan now has killed almost all of his enemies except Anderson and another guy at the counter missile sight. Anderson, this time gets an opportunity to kill his enemy from Dhuruvan troop by identifying their secret signals.

At climax, Dhuruvan and Anderson fight face to face and the girls try to disarm the counter missile from firing at the space rocket. Tollywood Latest Movie Alludu Seenu Review (3.5/5)

Seenu (Bellamkonda Sreenivas) is an orphan and he has the best buddy and caretaker in the form of Narasimha (Prakash Raj) who is also an orphan. Bhai (Prakash Raj) - a lookalike of Narasimha is a major mafia figure in Hyderabad. Seenu comes to know about it and plots a scheme to use Narasimha to gain money and a girl Anjali (Samantha) he loved at the first sight. The rest of the story is all about what happens when Bhai realises the ploy of Seenu.

ellamkonda Sreenivas: Bellamkonda Sreenivas makes a positive and convincing debut as hero with Alludu Seenu. He has got 6+ feet height and good personality. He has a positive body language. It’s pretty difficult for people of such height to do smooth-looking dances, but Sreenivas makes it happen with ease. He looks believable in fights. For a first timer, he has done an impressive work. However, he need to polish his dialogue delivery while delivering casual dialogues.

Others: Samantha is pretty good in a masala role. Her dances/expressions in the last song of the film are massy, yet cool. Prakash Raj has done two contrasting roles. An actor of Prakash Raj caliber needed for these dual roles as there is play between these characters that causes confusion. It’s an usual role for Pradeep Rawat. Brahmanandam plays the role of Dimple, a personal assistant of Bhai. Brahmanandam gets into his groove towards the climax of the film and entertains in the latter part of second half. Ravi Babu did a semi-comic role. Vennela Kishore is entertaining as an auto driver. Tamanna sizzled in the first song of the film.

Story - screenplay - direction: The basic story given Bobby has potential for a good commercial film. The exchange of two characters and the play between hero and Brahmanandam offers ample scope for entertainment. VV Vinayak who is established as one of the big contemporary directors of Telugu cinema handled the story in a commercial framework. Since it’s a debut of hero, VV Vinayak made sure that all emotions are covered in the story. However, he didn’t bother about detailing while doing such an extravagant film. The episode of telling story to airport authorities and escape in flight with vehicles chasing it is heavily inspired by Hollywood film Argo.

Other departments: Songs scored by Devi Sri Prasad are peppy. Title song of the film is the best. The makers have got best of locations in Japan in to shoot two songs. The unit traveled all the way to Macau to shoot just a bungee jumping episode and matched it to the backdrop of Sharjah. Dialogues penned by Kona Venkat are partly entertaining. Cinematography by Chota K Naidu deserves a big applause. Art director AS Prakash has done pretty neat work with art direction and locations scouting. There are several stunt choreographers for this movie. Production values by Bellamkonda Suresh are extraordinary. He has covered many countries like UAE, Japan and Macau to the film in rich scale. There is a flight chase on runway, an action episode on bungee jumping tower and a road accident in UAE. Doing such scenes in abroad costs a lot

Alludu Seenu is a formula-driven script that caters to all sections of audiences and it corporates all kinds of emotions. VV Vinayak brand value and Bellamkonda Suresh’s publicity for this film are the main reason for good openings for the movie. The plus points of the film are casting, songs, cinematography and production values. On the flip side, a more contemporary treatment and narration would have made it a better film. Brahmanandam’s comedy worked towards end. Vinayak is known for connecting with masses with his content. We have the wait and see how Alludu Seenu connects with masses with it’s time-tested, yet minimum guarantee content!
